How your chart is calculated
A kundali is computed, not looked up. The Moon comes from a truncated ELP2000-82 lunar theory, the Sun from Meeus’ solar theory, and the five star planets from their orbital elements. Longitudes are converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsha for your exact birth moment.
The ascendant comes from local sidereal time at the coordinates of the birthplace you choose. The Vimshottari dasha is timed from the Moon’s exact degree, so its dates are right even when the Moon sits near the edge of a nakshatra.
Houses are whole signs: the rising sign is the first house entire, the next sign the second, and so on.
Eleven doshas are checked, from Mangal and Kaal Sarp to Kemadruma and Shrapit. Each one names the placement it was found from, so you can check it against the chart.
Questions people ask
How exact does my birth time need to be?
As close as you can get it. The ascendant moves about one degree every four minutes, so a time rounded to the nearest hour can put it in the wrong sign. The Moon moves about half a degree an hour, so its nakshatra changes only when it sits near a boundary.
Which ayanamsha do you use?
Lahiri, also called Chitrapaksha — the ayanamsha adopted by the Indian government’s Calendar Reform Committee, and the most widely used in India. Your chart states its value at your birth moment, so you can check the arithmetic against a panchang you trust.
North Indian or South Indian chart?
They are the same chart drawn two ways. The North Indian style keeps the houses in fixed places, the first at the top, and writes the sign number in each. The South Indian style keeps the signs in fixed places and marks the ascendant. Yours can be shown either way.
Do I need an account?
No. The chart is worked out the same way whether or not you are signed in. An account keeps your birth details, lets you keep charts for other people, and is needed for the written reading and the astrologer.
